GE GNE27JYMFS refrigerator water filter: XWFE fit and certification
GE's Owner Center identifies model GNE27JYMFS and lists the GE XWFE refrigerator water filter for it. GE's XWFE documentation says XWFE replaces XWF and fits all refrigerators that call for XWF, but otherwise only select GE-family refrigerators; it is not a universal GE filter. The IAPMO certification applies to the named reduction claims on the XWFE performance data sheet under stated conditions, not every possible contaminant or water supply.
Safety boundary
- Use the exact model's Owner's Manual for filter location, installation, and filter-indicator reset; do not force a cartridge that will not seat or lock gently.
- GE's XWFE instructions call for potable water, 25–120 psi supply pressure, and 33–100°F water temperature. They warn not to use microbiologically unsafe or unknown-quality water without adequate disinfection before and after the system.
- GE specifies changing the disposable cartridge every six months or sooner if dispenser/icemaker flow noticeably decreases; its performance sheet rates capacity at 170 gallons.
- After installation, follow the model-appropriate filter-purging directions. GE's generic XWFE instructions specify dispensing two gallons for dispenser models; initial sputtering, air, or discoloration can occur during the purge.
- If the housing or connection leaks, stop using the dispenser/icemaker and resolve the leak before continued use.
Compatibility requires a direct model listing, explicit supersession, or equivalent manufacturer evidence.
Required identifiers
- Complete refrigerator model from the appliance label: GNE27JYMFS
- GE replacement filter marking: XWFE
- If the refrigerator label or installed filter shows a different model or filter family, verify that exact appliance in GE's parts lookup before ordering
Compatibility rules
- GE's exact GNE27JYMFS Owner Center parts page lists the XWFE refrigerator water filter for this model.
- GE says XWFE replaces XWF and fits refrigerators that call for XWF. That replacement statement does not establish that XWF is a valid reverse substitute in every refrigerator that calls for XWFE.
- GE describes XWFE as compatible with select GE, GE Profile, Café, and Monogram refrigerator families. Do not expand this exact model-to-filter receipt to all GE refrigerators or to another model suffix without its own parts lookup.
- The XWFE performance data sheet identifies its cartridge and certification claims. Performance depends on following installation, maintenance, and replacement directions and may vary with local water conditions.
Never assume
- A GE brand name, French-door appearance, or similar model number proves XWFE fit.
- XWFE replaces XWF means XWF and XWFE are interchangeable in both directions.
- A filter certified for specified contaminant-reduction claims makes unsafe or unknown water microbiologically safe.
- Certification means reduction of every contaminant, or identical performance under every local water condition.
- An aftermarket cartridge with similar dimensions or a compatible-looking label has GE's stated certification or fit approval.
Exact model and filter receipt
- Appliance: GE ENERGY STAR 27.0 cu. ft. French-door refrigerator, model GNE27JYMFS.
- GE Owner Center says this model was manufactured May 2020–present when checked on 2026-10-02.
- GE's exact-model Parts & Accessories page lists the GE XWFE refrigerator water filter.
- This record is limited to the exact model string GNE27JYMFS. If the appliance nameplate differs, use GE's model lookup with that complete label instead.
What the XWFE certification covers
The XWFE Performance Data Sheet (document 31-6000231, Rev. 0, February 2020, printed page 1) states that the XWFE system is certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401, and P473 for the reduction claims specified on that sheet. It lists individual test claims and limits. It does not certify removal of every possible contaminant, and the sheet cautions that actual results may vary with local water conditions.
The same sheet lists potable water, 25–120 psi operating pressure, 33–100°F water temperature, 0.5 gpm service flow, and 170 gallons capacity. GE also recommends replacing at six months or sooner if water flow falls noticeably. Keep these conditions with the claim rather than advertising certification without its stated scope.
Fit and installation boundary
GE describes XWFE as fitting select GE, GE Profile, Café, and Monogram refrigerator models and says it replaces XWF for refrigerators that call for XWF. The direct GNE27JYMFS Owner Center listing is the evidence for this exact appliance. Do not infer fit for a nearby model or reverse XWF/XWFE interchangeability from the replacement statement.
Follow GNE27JYMFS's Owner's Manual for its exact housing and reset details. GE's generic XWFE instructions describe a quarter-turn removal/installation sequence for the relevant filter designs and a two-gallon dispenser purge; stop if the housing design differs, the cartridge resists, or leakage occurs.
