Washer odor care: tub-clean cycle, gasket, and drying
LG recommends running its washer tub-clean cycle with an empty drum and a washing-machine cleaner used according to its package instructions, then opening the door and detergent dispenser to ventilate and dry. LG's maintenance guidance says its front-load drain-filter steps are front-load-specific. Cleaning cadence and gasket products vary across manufacturer guidance, so the exact model manual and cleaner label govern.
Safety boundary
- Never mix bleach and vinegar or combine cleaners.
- Use only a cleaner labeled for washing-machine tubs and follow its label.
- Drain-filter cleaning instructions in the cited LG guidance apply to front-load models only; check your exact manual before opening any filter.
Procedure
- Empty the washer
Remove laundry and visible foreign objects. LG says its Tub Clean cycle runs with an empty tub; confirm the cycle name and steps in your exact manual.
- Use a product intended for washer-tub cleaning
Use the product amount and dispenser or drum placement specified on the cleaner package and the model manual. Do not improvise chemical mixtures.
- Run the documented Tub Clean cycle
Select the model's Tub Clean cycle if equipped and start it as directed. Other models may use different named cycles or instructions.
- Ventilate and dry
After the cycle, open the door and dispenser if the manual permits so remaining moisture can dry. Wipe accessible gasket surfaces with the cleaner and method specified by the manual. Stop when: Odor persists after documented maintenance, or gasket/filter access requires tools or panel removal.
A model-aware cleaning routine
LG recommends emptying the drum, using a washing-machine tub cleaner according to its package, and running the Tub Clean cycle. Afterward, it advises opening the door and detergent dispenser to ventilate and dry moisture. Cycle names, cleaner placement, gasket materials, and recommended frequency vary by model and cleaner.
If your washer lacks Tub Clean, follow the model manual's maintenance instructions rather than assuming a substitute cycle.
Keep cleaning safe
Do not mix bleach with vinegar or other cleaners. Use only the product amount on its label. LG's cited maintenance page marks drain-pump-filter cleaning as front-load-only and warns residual water may be hot; this guide does not generalize that access procedure to top-load models.
If odor continues after the manual's cleaning routine or the washer leaks, arrange service rather than disassembling the cabinet.
