Chamberlain B970 sensors and radio generation: verify the exact variant
Chamberlain's B970 page lists 041-0136 as a replacement safety-sensor kit. The OEM 050DCTBFMC board page lists B970 and B970C separately, says the compatible board has a yellow Learn button, and gives a 2011–2022 replacement-board range. Chamberlain's 2017–2018 model table identifies B970 as a 1.25-HPS belt-drive Wi-Fi/battery-backup model. These receipts support a bounded B970 lookup; they do not merge B970, B970C, or B970T or prove every original board has the replacement board's button/color.
Safety boundary
- Keep people, pets, and vehicles clear of the moving door.
- Never bypass, disconnect, tape over, or defeat safety sensors or automatic reversal; stop operation if a safety system is absent or malfunctioning.
- Limit owner checks to reading the exact model/accessory labels, changing accessory batteries per their guide, and observing an obvious sensor obstruction/status without opening the powerhead or altering wiring.
- Springs, cables, drums, door balance, track/tension adjustments, and high-force hardware are technician work. Stop and call a qualified technician if the door binds, hangs crooked, feels heavy, or has a broken spring/cable.
Compatibility requires a direct model listing, explicit supersession, or equivalent manufacturer evidence.
Required identifiers
- Complete opener label; keep B970 separate from B970C and B970T
- Remote/button generation visible on the unit, if safely accessible
- Receiver-board model and manufacture/production information before considering board fit
- Sensor label/bracket style and exact B970 parts listing
Compatibility rules
- The exact B970 parts page lists safety sensor kit 041-0136.
- The 050DCTBFMC part page directly lists B970 and separately lists B970C; it identifies a yellow Learn button and a 2011–2022 applicable board range.
- Chamberlain's model-generation table identifies B970 as Wi-Fi, belt drive, and battery backup in the 2017–2018 model set.
- Use Chamberlain's Learn-button compatibility guide and exact opener label for remote selection; the board's yellow button spec is a replacement-board fact, not a claim about all historical B970 units.
Never assume
- B970, B970C and B970T are the same opener variant or share every service part
- Every original B970 has board 050DCTBFMC and yellow Learn button solely because a compatible replacement board does
- A 2021-plus sensor kit label establishes that the original opener was built after 2021
- Wi-Fi or a matching brand alone proves a remote fits
Exact B970 identity and parts receipt
- Chamberlain's B970 discontinued-model page identifies the exact model and lists kit 041-0136.
- The 050DCTBFMC receiver-board page names B970 and B970C as distinct compatible model strings.
- The official 2017–2018 model table identifies B970 as belt drive, Wi-Fi, and battery-backup. Use the full nameplate, not this family description, to select parts.
Yellow Learn evidence is board-bounded
The 050DCTBFMC page identifies the compatible replacement board as yellow Learn / Security+ 2.0 and gives an after-2011 to 2022 board range. The support evidence in this batch does not provide a B970-only learn-button specification for every manufacturing revision. Check the installed unit's actual Learn-button generation and Chamberlain's compatibility guide before picking a remote or keypad.
Safe sensor checks
- The B970 parts page lists 041-0136 sensors; verify sensor label and bracket before ordering.
- For an interrupted close, note whether a visible object blocks the beam and whether indicator lights are abnormal, without moving wiring.
- Never bypass sensors; persistent faults or door imbalance require a qualified technician.
