Clean a dishwasher filter before diagnosing a drain repair

- Disconnect power before placing hands in the tub or sump area.

Procedure
- Confirm the filter design
Use the model-number manual to verify that the filter is user-removable and note its lock/unlock direction.
- Remove standing water and debris
Lift out loose debris and remove enough water to see the filter area without pushing material into the pump path.
- Remove and clean the filter
Follow the manual, rinse the filter, and use only non-damaging cleaning methods permitted by the manufacturer.
- Inspect the seating surfaces
Clear debris from the filter well and check that seals, tabs, and retaining points are intact.
- Reinstall and verify
Lock the filter fully, restore power, run a short cycle, and check for normal draining and leaks.

- The retainer or housing is damaged
- Glass cannot be removed safely
